GIMP Tricks and How-To's
Hey Everyone!
Do you have GIMP? Possibly have no clue how to use it? Or possibly have GIMP, but can only do a couple things with it? Or you may be awesome at using GIMP, but want to learn some new tricks. Well then this is the thread for you!
The first thing I shall show you is:
Outlines
First, [obviously] open up GIMP, make sure the background is transparent (Post here if you don't know how to do that)
Then, Click on the symbol. Pick your font and colour. Click (Once) on the canvas. In the little box, type your text.
Now, go to your Layers Dialouge. Right click and Press "Alpha to Selection"
Then, make a new layer, and put it beneath the Text Layer (Post if you can't do that)
In the new layer that is beneath the text layer, simply press "Select" Located at the top of GIMP/the page. Now Press "Grow"
Next, you will see this:
Delete the number in the box by pressing "Delete" or "Backspace" on your keyboard. And type in a number. One is good for a fine outline, while six is good for a thick outline. I would suggest doing 2.
Then, you should see something like this:
Next, pick your colour. Make sure it is the foreground colour (so it's in the upper left) Then press the "Comma" and "Ctrl" key on your keyboard. You should see something like this:
Crop your image with this tool by making a square around the text.
Then click your text and it will crop it.
Now save it as PNG and viola!
More cool stuff coming soon!
